DRESS BLUES AND TENNIS SHOES
Saying good-bye is never easy, but on May 29, 2005, Capt. Paul Gurdak made it fun. The Commander's last shift at Station 30, after 33 years with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, was a mix of heartfelt farewells and family visits. His final fire wasn't exactly a conflagration, but he was outfitted for the occasion in dress blues and tennis shoes. A hearty home-cooked meal, courtesy of B.J. and Jack Grieco, and a retirement cake from the crew sent the boss out in style when the clock struck 1900 hours. The Miami Shores Village Council proclaimed Wednesday, June 8, 2005 as Capt. Paul Gurdak Day. Four other South Florida Fire Departments claim a Gurdak in their ranks, but this one is goin' fishin'! Congratulations on your retirement, Commander. You've earned it!
